Our Enchanting Destination Wedding in Bora Bora

Updated: Jun 18

A destination wedding is always an adventure, and ours was no exception. After getting engaged in Bora Bora, we knew there was no better place to say “I do.” So, we planned to return a year later for a simple, intimate wedding—just the two of us, the ocean breeze, and the magic of the island.

The Excitement of Planning

The 12 months leading up to our wedding were filled with anticipation. I stayed in regular contact with our wedding planner, finalizing every little detail from afar. Everything felt exciting and seamless—until we arrived in Bora Bora on a Friday. We soon discovered that our planner had taken a couple of days off and wouldn’t be available until Sunday.

It was not exactly the stress-free start I had envisioned. But hey, island life, right? We decided to go with the flow.

Finalizing the Details (At the Last Minute)

By Sunday, we finally met with our contact and locked in the details for our big day. There were a few hiccups during our meeting, but we took them in stride. After all, we were in paradise, and the most important thing was that we were getting married!

Wedding Day: The Unexpected Twists

Monday morning arrived, and it was everything we had dreamed of—calm, beautiful, and full of love. We enjoyed a relaxed breakfast and had time for a quick swim, with everything seeming to be on track. My hair and makeup artist arrived right on time, and I was feeling wedding-ready.

Then came the first hiccup.

The transport that was supposed to take me to the chapel? Nowhere to be found. I waited, waited, and waited some more. Then, finally, a call came. There was a “slight problem.”

Oh, but that wasn’t all. Apparently, our musician didn’t speak English, and they were scrambling to find someone who could sing in our language. At that point, I just laughed and said, “Whatever, let’s just do it.”

And that’s precisely what we did.

The Wedding, Minus the Flowers

The ceremony was beautiful, intimate, and everything we had hoped for—despite the little surprises along the way. It wasn’t until the next day that I even realized I didn’t have flowers! But honestly? It didn’t matter. The day was perfect in its own imperfect way.

My Advice for Destination Brides

Breathe. Enjoy. Laugh at the little things. Weddings, no matter how well planned, will always have unexpected moments. The key is to surround yourself with good people, embrace the journey, and remember that at the end of the day, it’s all about love.

Why Choose a Destination Wedding?

Destination weddings offer a unique experience that you can't find elsewhere. They allow you to combine your wedding and honeymoon into one fantastic trip. A place like Bora Bora provides stunning views, beautiful beaches, and an atmosphere that is just perfect for love.

If you're considering a destination wedding, look for locations that resonate with you as a couple. Research various venues and make sure to read reviews. A location that captures your hearts and offers the best services will ensure an unforgettable experience.

This is where engagement comes heavily into play. If you choose a planner, make sure they're familiar with the location and can help guide you through potential challenges.

The Joys of an Intimate Ceremony

Another fantastic aspect of a destination wedding is the intimacy it provides. With fewer guests, you can focus on what truly matters: your relationship and the vows you share. It’s a unique experience to celebrate with just a few of your closest friends or family, creating an atmosphere of love and support.

You also have the freedom to personalize your ceremony. Whether you want to include specific traditions or express your love in your own words, take advantage of the opportunity to make your wedding day reflective of who you are as a couple.

Final Thoughts

Would I do it all over again? In a heartbeat. The challenges we faced became part of our story, and they added an unexpected element to our special day.

Are you planning a destination wedding in Port Douglas? It's an incredible choice, and I encourage you to embrace the journey fully.

In the end, remember: "It’s all about love." Make your day uniquely yours, and let the magic of the destination add to your special moment.
